Constitution

The objectives of the Hispanic/Latino Faculty and Staff Caucus are to facilitate and influence UNC Charlotte policies that affect the educational and professional development of its members, promote community involvement and awareness, and provide guidance regarding its activities and goals.

Some of the functions of the Hispanic/Latino Faculty and Staff Caucus are:

  1. Serve as a support network for Hispanic/Latino members of the university community and articulate the collective concerns to the appropriate university officials
  2. Identify the professional needs of the Hispanic/Latino community and design programs to address those needs
  3. Advise university officials on how to best attract and retain more Hispanic/Latino faculty, staff, and administrators in the context of Objective D2.1.
  4. Promote active representation on University committees and task forces
  5. Meet with the Chancellor at least once per year and serve in an advisory capacity to his office
  6. Maintain and develop new channels of communication with Hispanic/Latino student organizations and the Charlotte community at large
  7. Develop financial and other resources necessary to maintain the effectiveness of the Hispanic/Latino Faculty and Staff Caucus

Membership and Administration designations are as follows:

  1. Regular Members
    • Must be employed at UNC Charlotte (full-time or part-time).
    • Self-identify as Latinx/Hispanic or of Latinx/Hispanic descent (e.g., Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin).
    • Have voice and vote in legislative meetings and elections.
    • Can serve in any elected or appointed position within the Caucus administration.
  2. Associate Members
    • Must also be employed at UNC Charlotte (full-time or part-time).
    • Do not identify as Latinx/Hispanic but share the goals of the Caucus and wish to participate in its activities.
    • Have voice but not vote in legislative meetings and elections.
    • Can serve in committee roles but cannot hold elected Executive Board positions.
  3. General Body
    • Includes all Regular and Associate Members.
    • All members can attend and participate, but only Regular Members vote on motions, elections, and policy changes.

Administration Designations

Executive Board Officers

(Only Regular Members can serve in these roles.)

  • President: Represents the Caucus, sets policies, is the spokesperson, and manages day-to-day operations.
  • Vice-President: Assists the President and serves as President Pro Tem when needed; oversees internal and external relations.
  • Administrative Coordinator: Takes and shares minutes, maintains email communications, manages the bulletin board, handles annual registration, and tallies election votes.
  • Treasurer: Manages financial records, prepares quarterly financial reports, and presents an annual budget to both the Executive Board and General Body.
  • Communications Officer: Manages the listserv, website, and social media, ensuring member lists are current.
  • Social Media Coordinator: Enhances the Caucus’ online presence, strengthens community engagement, and promotes events and initiatives through social media channels.
  • Scholarship Coordinator: Leads the administration of the Yvette M. Huet Sí Se Puede Scholarship to ensure a fair, transparent, and efficient award process.

Committees and Chairpersons

  • Standing & Ad Hoc Committees may be created by the Executive Board for specific tasks or ongoing projects.
  • Committee Chairpersons are elected by committee members or appointed by the Executive Board.
  • Associate Members may serve in committee roles.

The Hispanic/Latino Faculty and Staff Caucus meets at least once before the legislative meetings. Special meetings shall be held at the discretion of the President or upon request. The dates of the meetings will be on the News and Events tab of this webpage, and the agendas and/or minutes will be uploaded to the Meetings tab.
